B4RN Superfast Broadband

B4RN Superfast Broadband for Warcop Parish
There was a public meeting in the Parish Hall recently given by a representative of B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North.) B4RN is a local not-for-profit organisation specialising in providing 1 gigabit (1000 mps) full fibre broadband connections direct to properties and businesses in rural areas. Any resident can sign up and the government provides vouchers to help with the cost. The current monthly cost for customers is £33, with potential reductions for some customers and free for schools, churches and village halls.
The network has already gone live at Musgrave, Brough Sowerby and Church Brough and the next logical area is Warcop Parish and then possibly Ormside.
You should have received a leaflet recently but if not, below is a link to B4RN’s website for further information. It is a matter for individuals whether they keep their current provider or switch to B4RN when the Warcop network is established. A group of volunteers has been set up to take this concept forward and to talk to local landowners and also local tradespeople. Ideally, at least 50% of the 300 or so properties and businesses in the Parish would need to sign up to make it cost effective.

PLEASE NOTE: B4RN have made it clear that an expression of interest is NOT a firm contractual commitment at this stage, which would only be made when the network has been created in our parish. At this stage, B4RN would like to see the number of potential subscribers if they build the network here.

Warcop Playpark Now Open!

The new play area in Warcop has now opened and it has proved very popular with local children and visitors alike. It has been funded by a series of grants, fund-raising events and contributions from Warcop Parish Council. The whole project has been led by Councillor Katie Hindson who deserves our thanks for her determination and hard work.

Warcop Post Office & Foyer Café

See the source image

The Post Office session is on THURSDAYS 09:00 – 11:00am every week from now on, as it previously operated.

We very much hope that residents will use the Post Office service including parents, the school staff, trustees and the wider community.

We have now re-established the Foyer café alongside the Post Office sessions, thanks to a team of volunteers who have agreed to help run it.

Please try to support the Post Office because this is definitely a case of use or lose it!

In addition, we are told that the mobile butcher’s van will call in at the Parish Hall car park on a Thursday morning.

Superfast Broadband Meeting

There is a public meeting on Tuesday 9th August at 7pm at Warcop Parish Hall, where a representative will come and talk us through the project and answer any questions residents have.

B4RN is a not for profit company who use government funding to help communities get superfast broadband to each property.  The service once signed up costs £33 per month.

As it’s government funded, we need a large proportion of the residents in the parish to sign up/come along and express interest in the project.

Here is a link to a poster with more information about the scheme:

New Play Area

Just to let you know that work to install Warcop’s brand new play area will start the week commencing the 8th August. Once again many thanks to Katie Hauser, one of our Parish Councillors, for leading this by obtaining quotes and writing many bids for grants and also arranging fund-raising events. The finished playground will be an exciting and amazing experience for all the children!
