As a number of people have asked me about this, I have arranged for the GNAA van to collect our bags on SATURDAY 28TH NOVEMBER at 11:30 am.
Please leave as many bags, printer cartridges etc outside Warcop Parish Hall between 9:00 – 11:00 am at the latest on the Saturday morning. Please tie up the bags well to make them weatherproof.
PLEASE MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCE AT THE HALL & SANITISE YOUR HANDS
PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, BAGS & FLYERS WILL NOT BE PUT IN LETTERBOXES. INSTEAD YOU CAN FIND THEM IN EACH OF THE VILLAGE PAPER BOXES.
If you need more bags, please ring me on 41390. (If any bag has a day printed on, please ignore this and bring the bags on the collection day at the hall.)
Thank you for your continued support for this brilliant and much-needed charity, and this will be a good time to have a good clear out before Christmas!
Chair, Warcop Parish Council
A group of Parish Councillors and and local residents recently met with a team from Highways England to propose an alternative route to their published “preferred route.” As our community was only offered one option which many might not fully appreciate the implications of, we wanted to suggest a completely northern route behind the MOD buildings, through a valley and eventually returning to the straight part of the old road beyond Sandford road end.
We think their proposal would increase noise, air and visual pollution, reduce property prices and take away the army/community playing field and create huge bridges which would be higher than the railway line embankment.
Warcop Parish Council intends to send out a questionnaire to all residents soon n which we will ask people to consider whether they prefer the Highways England option I or our northern option I (north).
Warcop Parish Council is embarking on an imaginative plan to completely upgrade the existing play area on the village green as we feel the current equipment is old and unexciting. It is checked regularly by Eden District Council to ensure it is safe.
This project is being led by Councillor Katie Hauser and a small working group. So far a number of companies have drawn up plans and quotations for a variety of schemes. In order to raise the considerable funds required, there will be several fund-raising events in the coming months as well as applications to a range of funders.
Katie has sent out a questionnaire to seek people’s views and we will inform you of the results and which scheme the Parish Council has chosen.
In the short term, the Parish Council has asked EDC if it can at least re-paint the existing swings and slide to brighten them up until we have all the funds we need to create a completely new and exciting adventure play area.
The next meeting of Warcop Parish Council will be via Zoom on Tuesday 8th September at 7:30 pm. An agenda will be published on noticeboards and here on the website when available.
If any member of the community wishes to join in the Zoom meeting, please contact our Clerk, Heidi Strong, by email email@example.com.
Here are the minutes of our last meeting:
Shap Chippy are planning to start a weekly fish & chip service from their mobile van which will be sited at Warcop Parish Hall car park every TUESDAY evening from 4:30 -7 pm. There will be a pre-booking system and it is hoped that the new scheme will start on the 13th October. This will be a great boost for everyone after the lockdown period and we expect residents will help collect meals for neighbours who can’t drive so that they don’t miss out!
Make sure that you spread the word!
Please check here for further details when we receive them and also look out for leaflets and posters.
Warcop Parish Council is trying to set up a parish-wide mailing list to enable it to send relevant information to the 220 households that make up the parish in Bleatarn, Sandford, Warcop and part of Coupland Beck. If you click on any page after the Home Page on our website, you will see a simple sign-up form. You can choose how to receive information and you can opt out whenever you like.
The idea is to tell you about the things the Parish Council is working on as well as telling you about its meetings and the minutes. We will also seek your opinion on issues from time to time – for example, we are currently meeting with Highways England to try and persuade them to create a northerly route for the dualled A66 that takes it over MOD land and further away from Warcop and nearby properties.
We would also like to tell you about events, classes or activities at the Parish Hall, as well as any developments the trustees are working on. For example, they have recently been successful in securing funding to build an extension to our store rooms as we do not have enough space, which is due to the hall’s success.
The whole point is to keep you – the nearly 600 residents of our parish – as fully up to date as possible, so that you feel informed and involved in our community.
Please sign up as soon as possible, so that we can build up a really good number of contacts, then we will begin to send out occasional emails.

The Post Office service at Warcop Parish Hall has re-opened on a new day for the time being, on Tuesdays. Please note the revised opening time from 2 – 3 pm with effect from the 8th September.
A poster is attached below.
PLEASE NOTE THAT FACE MASKS/COVERINGS MUST BE WORN AT THE POST OFFICE IN LINE WITH RECENT GOVERNMENT ADVICE.
The meeting room will be Covid-secure with a Perspex screen, hand sanitiser, social distancing rules and one customer in the room at a time. We look forward to meeting as many customers as possible.
Please note that the Community Wheels Friday minibus service will restart on Friday the 10th July. Covid-19 precautions will be in place on board which means that places will be limited at first.
The service runs from Appleby, Great Asby, Ormside, then to Warcop and Sandford before returning to Appleby to connect with the 10:00 563 Stagecoach bus to Penrith. The other route covers Appleby, Dufton, Silverband, Milburn, Long Marton and back to Appleby.
You need to sign up to join the scheme and obtain a pre-payment card. Details of routes and times are on the posters at the Warcop and Sandford bus stops, or phone 01228 226428 to join the scheme.
The Trustees of the Parish Hall have agreed to have a limited re-opening of the hall from the week beginning the 13th July. Only a few groups will be able to use the hall at first, such as the Tuesday Drama group, the Friday morning Art class (from 7th August) and the Post Office at a new time and day of Tuesday afternoon, 1-2 pm. The kitchen will not be available initially as Trustees have to ensure that the hall is Covid-safe and all necessary risk assessment have been carried out. We hope to gradually expand the number of users and activities in the coming weeks. No indoor exercise classes are permitted at the moment.
In the light of recently updated government guidance, Trustees are currently considering allowing some sport and exercise classes to re-start from September. These include Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Extend Exercise and Bat & Chat and strict Covid-secure measures will be in place.
