Warcop & Sandford WI have kindly donated a cherry blossom tree which has now been planted near to the Woodland Burial area in Warcop Cemetery. This is part of the Queen’s Jubilee green canopy initiative. The Parish Council is extremely grateful to Valerie and David Brooks, and Maureen Heron who helped with the organisation and planting. The new tree will really enhance that corner of the cemetery.
Following several years of requests by the Parish Council, we are pleased to report that Sandford now has received its own green waste skip. This might only be a temporary solution and we will have to see what the new Westmorland & Furness authority’s policy will be on this, or the introduction of green wheelie bins in the future.

People from near and far flocked to Warcop’s fifth annual Art & Craft Exhibition over the Bank Holiday weekend. Visitors were treated to a fantastic range of arts and crafts produced by local artists and craftspeople.
New this year was an impressive letterpress machine demonstrated by Charles Blackett-Ord. George Bennett’s hobby of making walking sticks also interested visitors. As well as a full display of local arts and crafts, all pupils from Warcop C of E Primary School exhibited a piece of their work. Visitors were asked to vote for their favourite piece by an adult and a child. Refreshments were, as ever, delicious and highly popular, as were the workshops and demonstrations.
David Keetley, organiser, said “The exhibition was really successful with many visitors and excellent sales for those who sold their work. After a 3-year gap, it was great to be back and I’d like to express my thanks to the many volunteers who helped to make the event run so smoothly.” The exhibition raised over £2000 which will go to support the running costs of the Parish Hall.
