Help for Ukraine
Can you Help? |
Help for a Ukrainian Translator Needed I received a request this morning on behalf of a translator currently working at Warcop Camp. John Hope helps in this regard and he is asking if anyone in our community could spare a little time to meet Nadiya to help her improve her English. This is just conversational English which will help her do her work more effectively. Below is an extract from John’s email to give you a little more information and a contact number and email for him: I am a Job Club Volunteer working with a number of Ukrainians in Farnham, Surrey. One or whom, Nadiya, is working as a translator at Warcop Camp. She was a University Lecturer in the Ukraine and is looking for opportunities to improve her English, she would really benefit from the opportunity of practising English conversation with some friendly local people. As you mentioned folk, people staying on the camp that you have given lifts to, have said that they can feel very confined. For Nadiya to get off the camp and to talk about everyday UK things (non military) with (non military) people would be welcome on so many levels. You mentioned your Mailchimp group and the contacts you have in Musgrave as potential people who could help – these sound very hopeful. John 07713 654715 If you think you could help, please let me know or call John direct on his mobile or via his email j.hope@virgin.net Thank you in anticipation of your help. David Keetley |
We are pleased to announce that following an inspection by an Eden District Council Environmental Health Officer, Warcop Parish Hall was awarded a five-star rating for food hygiene. Well done to all the volunteers and trustees who work so hard to maintain these high standards.
Public Meeting
The B4RN Warcop & Ormside working group have arranged a Public Meeting on Thursday 23rd March at 7:30pm at Warcop Parish Hall. A representative of B4RN will update residents on the progress of our project, answer any questions you may have and you can sign up if you so wish. Nearly 30% of residents of Warcop and Ormside have now signed up and we hope that even more will do so.
A flier will be delivered to every home in the coming days with more details and you can also see it here:
Warm Spaces
Please note that our Thursday Warm Spaces will now run from 9am till 1pm at the Parish Hall. It will coincide with the Foyer Café and the Post Office, and all tea, coffee and biscuits will be FREE OF CHARGE until April the 6th.
You can also bring your lunch and we can offer free tins of soup as well. This will be staffed by volunteers as usual.
Keep warm and enjoy the company of others!

The next Coffee Morning at Warcop Parish Hall is on Saturday 11th March, 10:00 – 11:30am. Your local Parish, District and County Councillors have been invited to attend, as well as the two councillors on the new Westmorland & Furness unitary authority. This will be an opportunity to get to know your councillors and to raise any issues or ideas with them.

Missing Cat Found!
Thank you to all who helped search for the missing cat Oski, who has now thankfully been found by a local farmer. The owner has sent this message with permission to circulate it wider:
Incredibly on day 16 of Oski the cat’s disappearance, Steve, one of the local farmers has found him alive in the field just behind Upper Field View (where we are presently living).
We have just taken him to the vet and he is clearly not in the best of health but as an 18 year old with existing conditions, he is back with us.
He lost half of his already light body weight and will have to be carefully monitored but we are so grateful for the opportunity to have him home with us even if it is just for a short time.
He has eaten well, drunk a large amount of water and is curled up in a snug little animal den with a hot water bottle under it.
We are very grateful for all of the kind comments people in the community have made and would like to thank everybody for keeping a good lookout for Oski.
Special thanks to Steve of course.
Best wishes.
Lee & Lydia.

Just a reminder that the consultation period on NH’s proposed changes to the DCO has started and ends on the 27th February. There is a consultation meeting at Warcop Parish Hall on Wednesday 1st February, 3 – 7pm. I hope that you will attend if possible and then respond either online or via paper copies.
From what I can see, most of the changes seem sensible and straightforward, and the most significant perhaps is the re-design of the Langrigg junction, as well as a reduction of the Warcop junction near the army playing field.. However, no sign here of the section from Café 66 to Dyke Nook Cottage being put behind the line of trees, or the maintaining of the existing Brough Hill Fair site. It will be interesting to examine the drawings of the new Warcop junction in greater detail than the brochure gives.
